  • You’ll be collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and consultants, understanding the requirements and incorporating those requirements into your work;
  • You’ll be providing technical 2D drafting and 3D modeling and design analysis support on a wide variety of projects collaborating with colleagues in offices around the world;
  • Preparing existing condition models based on a variety of sources including topographic surveys, aerial drone surveys, and satellite imagery;
  • Preparing technical figures for reports and engineering drawings for conceptual, tender, and construction packages;
  • You’ll be managing your own workload commitments by following an established workflow and data management process;
  • Responsible for quality assurance and control with adherence to global company standards, processes, and best practices;

What you’ll bring to WSP :

  • Technician or Technology Diploma or Degree or equivalent preferably in the disciplines of environmental, geotechnical, mining and/or civil engineering;
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in CAD Drafting and Design with AutoCAD and Civil 3D;
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to following a prescribed set of global company standards, processes, and best practices;
  • Willingness to learn and the desire to excel and thrive in an engaging, collaborative environment;

  • CAD Design and Modeling:
  • Utilize advanced CAD 2/3D design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, Infraworks) to create detailed 2D and 3D models of geotechnical and structural designs, including shoring support, retaining walls, foundations, slopes, and tunnels.
  • Develop accurate and precise drawings, plans, sections, and elevations that adhere to industry standards and client specifications.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of design drawings and specifications.
  • Provide technical support, mentoring and guidance to junior/intermediate CAD technicians.

  • Project Support:

  • Provide technical support to project teams, including field personnel, contractors, and clients.
  • Manage project tasks, delegate and review tasks completed by junior/intermediate CAD technicians.

  • Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct thorough reviews of design documents to identify and resolve potential issues.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Technician or Technology Diploma or equivalent preferably in the disciplines of civil, geotechnical, geostructural or ground engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in geostructural drafting and design.
  • Recognized design/drafting education and/or industry equivalent certification is an asset.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Infraworks and/or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of other industry specific specialized software is an asset.
  • Ability to visualize 2D drawing work in a 3D environment.
  • Strong understanding of geostructural engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and translate architectural, structural, surveying, civil and utilities drawing details contained within in 2D drawings and 3D Revit models and translate these into 2D geostructural drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret geotechnical engineering reports and borehole logs and translate these into 2D geostructural drawings.
  • Ability to prepare 2D and 3D drawings utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit and other structural design software.
  • Ability to understand and adapt standardized drawing details to customized project design requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in design work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Professional certification (e.g., EIT, PE) is an asset.

Job description: Job Description:WSP is currently seeking a CAD Technician / Window Simulator to join our Buildings group, located at our Kitchener office. Reporting to the Southwestern Ontario Director of Building Sciences this position will be responsible for simulating windows, doors and skylights and to create simulation reports in compliance with applicable NFRC and CSA standardsResponsibilities

  • Under the guidance of a Project Manager, the simulator shall learn applicable NFRC and CSA standards.
  • Simulate windows, doors and skylights for U-value, SHGC, VT and CR in accordance with NFRC and CSA standards using softwares such as Therm and Window, and our Window Report Generator and Door Report Generator
  • Create written report of simulation results for client and inspection agency in compliance with NFRC
  • Send simulation reports to the client and make changes to the simulations if necessary. Send simulation files and reports to the clients inspection agency. The simulator is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of simulations and reports
  • Conduct research projects and write client reports
  • Work closely with manufacturers to deliver proposals and obtain required project information and occasionally attend window industry meetings such as Windoor by Fenestration Canada
  • Apply sustainable thinking and practices within project delivery
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Building Science, or Architectural Technology
  • Minimum B average and involvement in volunteer or industry associations
  • AutoCAD skills are an asset.
  • Previous co-op / summer work experience in the construction or engineering industry is ideal
