Meet the policy teams We are a dynamic team of nationally recognized professionals working to deliver clean energy solutions into the hands of decision-makers and stakeholders locally, provincially, nationally and globally.

The opportunity We are seeking highly motivated students to join us for 16-week or 24-32-week Policy Internships supporting research and development of policy solutions to advance decarbonization. One internship is available for each of these teams for the specified time period:

  • Electricity (May to August 2024)
  • Equitable Transition: (May to August 2024)
  • Buildings: (May to August 2024)
  • Transportation: (May to August 2024)
  • Renewables in Remote Communities: (May to October or December 2024)

We’ll be leaning on you to bring your analytical skills to bear on research, writing and analysis in a variety of areas affecting clean energy policy.

Your key responsibilities Interns will be assigned to projects focused on one or more topics based on interest and expertise.

You will:

  • Conduct technical, quantitative, and qualitative analyses.
  • Conduct desktop research on policy best practices in different jurisdictions.
  • Assist in drafting reports, articles, blogs and social media.
  • Support the development of high-quality project deliverables, including reports, presentations, and Excel models.
  • Update and maintain public engagement database and email lists.
  • Conduct interviews with key stakeholders from government, industry, and civil society.
  • Support the planning and execution of webinars and engagement sessions on various topics.

What we’re looking for
As an ideal student, you’re highly motivated and passionate about contributing meaningfully to transitioning Canada to clean energy — you’re driven to make an impact.

You also have:

  • General knowledge of climate science and environmental impacts of energy, acquired through education, volunteer or work experience.
  • Are enrolled in one or more of the following fields of academic study at a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution: engineering, sciences, economics, policy, environmental studies.
  • General knowledge of provincial policy and regulations in the sector.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • The ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative technical research in energy and environment policy.
  • The ability to decipher complex technical matters and to convey complex matters into plain language.
  • The ability to be self-motivated and results oriented and can take initiative.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work out of one of our offices in a hybrid work model during your internship period.

*Interns can be based out of any one of our offices across the country. With our Renewables in Remote Communities team, we encourage those who identify as Indigenous to apply and will accommodate remote work.

Compensation The rate is $20.00 per hour and will be paid in accordance with applicable legislation related to the Employment Standards Act for overtime, holiday and vacation pay.
