Job description: The Opportunity: The position of Product Development Specification Specialist is responsible for the documentation of product recipes, and product specifications in SAP, based on current processing information and legacy documentation. They will support the migration of recipe and pSOP data from legacy systems to SAP, as well as new product innovation and cost optimization initiatives.They will collaborate closely with Product Development, Manufacturing, and Quality team members to load the SAP system with information that is accurate and complete. The individual will need to be self-motivated, team oriented, results-focused, and enjoy a fast-paced work environment.   • Support key innovation and cost-optimization projects by leading the migration of legacy data at our Viau facilities into SAP RD. This includes ingredient and packaging specifications, recipe data, and SOPs.
  • Coordinate with vendors to secure ingredients and packaging specification data, and validate for correctness.
  • Research and source raw material information from legacy sources.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Manufacturing for the validation and mapping of manufacturing processes to be documented in pSOPs and BOMs.
  • Analyze BOMs and legacy documentation to ensure correct inputs are documented in SAP RD.
  • Enter and create ingredients/packaging specifications, recipes, pSOPs, and other required documentation in SAP RD based on validated manufacturing processes and legacy data.
  • Lead and conduct validation sessions with plant personnel for approval of final pSOPs.
  • Support commercial and internal initiatives by documenting ingredient specifications, product recipes, and product specifications in SAP RD.
  • Audit production runs on the plant floor at our manufacturing sites, as needed to ensure that documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Maintain supporting project files.

What You’ll Bring:

  • University undergraduate degree program, preferably in Science, Food Science, or Engineering.
  • Experience in Product Development, Operations, or Quality Assurance/Control is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including SAP (ECP and RD), Microsoft 365 programs (especially Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving, and process and workflow mapping skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently. Candidate must be results-oriented.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.

Job description: The Opportunity: Reporting to the Director of Internal Reporting & Systems, this position will be responsible to ensure accurate and timely month-end close processes and procedures and will be responsible for the review of account reconciliations and journal entries for the Company’s Fresh operating units (“OU’s”) and support the spin out of our Pork Operations. This role is also responsible for the consolidation and reporting of these operating units and the publication of monthly internal management reports, including financial statements and accompanying management reporting schedules. The ideal candidate possesses skill sets in performing and assessing critical activities, developing finance analysts, and using key performance indicators to manage the efficient delivery of monthly reporting. In addition, the ideal candidate should have the necessary critical thinking skills to challenge the status quo with a continuous improvement mindset for a best-in-class accounting and reporting function.   • Evaluate the performance of direct reports, train and develop staff
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial reporting for the fresh operating units, and ensuring management is aware of relevant trends and issues;
  • Critically review the department’s processes and implement best practice and continuous improvement;
  • Responsible for regular review of balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries;
  • Review and oversee the preparation of monthly management control reports;
  • Responsible for overseeing the compilation of the monthly forecasts for the relevant operating units;
  • Oversee the annual budget process with focus on budgeting for balance sheet components and completion of the complete budget management control report for responsible OUs;
  • Ensure that all the month-end activities are performed on-time for hand off to external consolidation and reporting team;
  • Act as liaison with internal and external auditors, coordinating reviews and managing deliverables;
  • Prepare tax reporting packages to assist the Tax team in the preparation of year end provisions and annual tax filings;
  • Manage the monthly timelines for the completion of the financial close process, working cross-functionally with other teams within Maple Leaf including Tax, Treasury, and the Consolidations team;
  • Supervise a staff of 3, providing guidance on day-to-day issues and reviewing work completed. Review and approve bi-annual performance reviews and coach staff on career development;
  • Oversee the operating effectiveness and self-test of internal controls within the team, identifying any weaknesses and making process improvements as necessary; and
  • Other ad hoc accounting and reporting tasks as required.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance;
  • CPA designation;
  • 5+ years of working experience in Accounting & Finance;
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS;
  • Experience supervising staff; and
  • Experience with public company reporting is an asset.
  • In depth knowledge of Excel;
  • Self-starter with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Action oriented with excellent time management skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Ability to work within tight deadlines; and
