- Conduct power system studies including load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis to evaluate system performance, efficiency, reliability, and safety. Being able to conduct protection coordination studies is an asset
- Analyze and interpret study results to inform design decisions and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Contribute to the design and analysis of electrical systems for rail and transit infrastructure, including substations, single-line diagrams, layout plans, three-line diagrams, and equipment specifications
- Develop or support grounding and bonding designs following CSA, IEEE, and local safety standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, mechanical, systems, etc.) to integrate electrical requirements into broader project scopes
- Prepare, review, and validate engineering drawings, technical calculations, specifications, and compliance documentation
- Participate in technical reviews, risk assessments, and constructability evaluations throughout the project lifecycle
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and authorities by providing technical input, progress updates, and support during the design and implementation phases
- Support quality assurance and control processes, ensuring deliverables meet internal and external expectations
- Contribute to the development of proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules as needed
What you’ll bring to WSP:Must-have Skills for both senior and intermediate-level roles:
- Ability to lead complex projects and mentor cross-functional teams.
- Proven experience with design integration across multidisciplinary projects
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian and international transit standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., CSA, IEEE, AREMA, NFPA 130).
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. A master’s degree is considered an asset.
- Licensure: Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports, specifications, and client-facing documentation.
Experience Expectations by Level:
- Junior Level: New graduate to 5 years related experience and strong academic foundation.
- Intermediate Level: 5-12 years related experience, ideally within rail or transit projects.
- Senior Level: 10+ years of related experience, ideally within rail or transit projects, with demonstrated leadership in project delivery, client engagement, and mentoring.
Technical Skills
- Solid academic foundation in power systems, electrical circuits, and control systems
- Proficiency in power system modelling and analysis tools
- Ability to analyze data inputs and interpret study results effectively
- Familiarity with CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Revit for electrical design documentation
- Understanding of EMC/EMI concepts, mitigation strategies, and their impact on traction power and adjacent systems
