Sportsnet is looking for an innovative, collaborative, and engaging marketer to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Sportsnet Marketing.

She/he/they will enable Sportsnet to i) serve the needs of Canadian sports fans, ii) driving thought leadership and strategic plans to evolve with emerging trends in media and iii) build our brand and its core properties by using all of our marketing channels to drive audiences and fan interest.

Reporting to the Marketing Director, Sportsnet, you will be accountable for the marketing strategy, management and execution of the largest and most exciting sports media portfolio in Canada that may include support of the NHL, Hockey Night In Canada, Sportsnet’s United By Sport Primary Brand, the NBA, the Toronto Raptors, the MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays, or Sportsnet’s range of digital products.


What you will do…

Drive thought leadership and strategic planning to help SN achieve our marketing and business priorities:

  • Lead development and execution of digital & performance marketing as part of delivering integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns
  • Develop Brand Marketing briefs using performance and digital marketing expertise and industry knowledge
  • Execute paid digital campaigns with excellence to achieve financial and audience targets
  • Own ongoing reporting activities across multiple campaigns at once and be prepared to share the Marketing team’s story with key business stakeholders
  • Oversee consistency of Sportsnet brand delivery across all lines of business
  • Recommend and activate against strategic Test-and-Learn ideas
  • Help manage the overall SN marketing budget in collaboration with Finance

Contribute to the development and delivery of our annual Marketing Plan:

  • Establish & track annual brand objectives/KPI’s to deliver SN business & audience objectives
  • Cultivate and leverage our partnerships with leagues and teams to amplify fan engagement and connection to the SN brand
  • Develop full marketing plans, as well as detailed advertising calendars for relevant priorities
  • Lead the prioritization and development of initiatives, including time-sensitive, multi-platform launches as well as always-on engagement plans.
  • Support growth of Original & Branded content and client-sponsored partnerships

Work as the primary contact between Marketing/Advertising for Sportsnet and the NHL Brand teams:

  • Manage the day-to-day relationships with the NHL, the Canadian NHL teams and other key Corporate Partners.
  • Lead and monitor brand health performance for Sportsnet & the NHL, consistently ensuring there is alignment between our teams on overarching brand strategies and key brand & revenue drivers.
  • Partner with the internal Insights department to deliver research and learnings that can help grow the game of hockey and reach new audiences and new fan communities.
  • Lead a team and play a significant role in cross functional teams, internally and externally
  • Provide talent within our team with development opportunities to grow their skills and profile
  • Develops relationships with other SN teams, including our Creative agency, Production, Original Content, Communications, Talent Growth, Sales/Revenue, Programming, and Finance
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with external teams, including serving as a primary contact for our Media agency, all partner leagues and associations, all partner clubs, and various joint-business partner media platforms (Facebook/Instagram, Google, Twitter, etc.)


What you will bring…

  • Sports fandom and a healthy obsession with broadcast marketing and fan engagement
  • Expertise in multiple areas of the online advertising ecosystem and deep understanding of platforms and vendors, and how they fit into the digital advertising ecosystem along with fresh thinking on how they may contribute to our plans for subscriber growth
  • Strong marketing experience and a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, agencies and partners to manage performance marketing campaigns from end to end
  • Passion and belief in the power of research and analytics to drive better decision making
  • Thought Leadership on digital trends; while focused on sports, possess a breadth of interests and maintain the ability to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, processes, approaches, and competitor offerings
  • Familiarity with successfully managing complex organizational structures and relationships
  • A drive for continuous learning and high performance amongst a team
  • Experience in leading brand definition, audience segmentation, planning, and execution
  • A desire to collaborate, influence and lead amongst peers

You Will:

You Have:

  • Deep familiarity with internet technology, streaming, internet slang/colloquialisms and internet culture

Job Description

Develop, implement, and report on integrated marketing strategies that drive brand and product awareness, demand generation, and customer retention. Brand Marketing:

  • Project management – management of multiple cross- functional campaign /initiatives.
  • Agile – adoption and utilization of Agile methodology and processes
  • Internal and external communication – development and execution of content for an omni channel marketing approach
  • Corporate website – overall site management and optimization including branding, content development and positioning, customer journey and messaging
  • Management of the creative process to ensure timely development or amendment of collaterals, working with remote creative teams.
  • Customer focus – creation and utilization of testimonials, case studies and other tools to drive demand generation
  • Event management – management of sponsorships, events, and strategic partnerships with select associations
  • Developing cross- functional objective driven incentive promotions to deliver growth in existing and new customers
  • Whitespace – leading the development of whitespace strategy and execution
  • Budgeting – monitoring and tracking to ensure ROI and efficiency of spend

  • Expertise – Understands key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work
  • Problem Solving- Uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems
