QualificationsEducation & Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Education, Human Resources, or related field is required Experience related to expertise in a related field will be considered

The successful candidate will be involved in data collection for whole-ecosystem experiments and a long-term ecological monitoring program. The Hydrology/Limnology (HydroLim) program is responsible for collecting water quality and biota samples from numerous research and long-term monitoring lakes and streams at IISD-ELA, as well as gathering meteorological data. The Research Assistant will work with other technical staff at IISD-ELA to ensure that research and facility operations are conducted and completed daily. The incumbent may also assist with data analysis and data entry.Responsibilities
- Operating various field vehicles (all-terrain vehicles, trucks, vans) on highways and gravel roads.
- Using a variety of watercraft, including boats with outboard motors and canoes.
- Collecting samples and data for a variety of limnological and hydrological parameters (physical, chemical).
- Collecting samples and performing daily checks at the meteorological station.
- Constructing/installing/maintaining field equipment as needed.
- Downloading data from various data-logging devices.
- Completing detailed and accurate field notes.
- Entering data into databases/software (including Google Forms, Survey123).
- May be occasionally required to assist other field crews (fish, zooplankton, autotrophic ecology).

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recent completion of (December 2024–April 2025) a college or university program relevant to freshwater research or equivalent of such a degree.
- Keen and hard-working.
- Ability to do fieldwork involving manual labour, such as hiking and lifting heavy objects (up to 25 kg).
- Willing to work long hours in diverse conditions (e.g., hot, cold, rain, snow, buggy).
- Ability to work safely in a remote field environment that requires flexibility and teamwork.
- Willing to live in a remote location for up to 4–6 months (alternating weekends excluded).

- Assisting unrepresented clients who have been charged with criminal or quasi-criminal matters
- Representing clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas and remands both in-person and remotely
- Assessing clients’ needs, including the early identification of vulnerable clients, to facilitate referrals to appropriate services.
- Providing in-person and remote summary legal advice to clients in or out of custody
- Assisting colleagues in preparation of bail hearings, guilty pleas and other forms of resolutions
- When appropriate, representing clients in Crown pre-trial negotiations for purposes of resolution
- Representing clients in specialty courts including Mental Health, Gladue, Domestic Violence, and Youth Courts as required
- Ensuring a high quality of legal work in a cost effective manner
- File management as per LAO requirements including use of computer technology; data input for statistics measurements in a timely manner
- Punctual attendance at court to perform daily duties
- Providing assistance with legal aid referrals as required
- Facilitating knowledge-sharing and best practices among court locations and staff offices
- Perform other duties and administrative tasks as assigned and remain adaptable and flexible in a changing environment.
Required skills & experience
- Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Legal knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to represent clients with sensitive legal issues including conducing bails hearings, and guilty pleas.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice or public interest work
- Sound knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, criminal law procedures, rules of evidence and case law
- Practical understanding of the Rules of Professional Conduct
- Communication, presentation and negotiation skills coupled with strong advocacy skills in the Ontario Court of Justice
- Proven judgment and analytical ability to determine appropriate legal remedies
- Knowledge and appreciation of impact of criminal proceedings on immigration, family and other poverty law issues; and the integrated nature of legal issues faced by LAO clients
- Background/Knowledge/Awareness of the challenges faced when serving vulnerable populations such as racialized communities, First Nations, youth and those experiencing mental health or addiction challenges and/or homelessness
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment while also demonstrating collaboration and teamwork with colleagues and other stakeholders
- Ability to use computer based file management and data entry systems such as PeopleSoft, DCSW, etc as well as Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated ability to use latest communication technologies including tablets and smartphones and ability to utilize video conferencing platforms in order to deliver services virtually (Zoom/Teams)
- Ability and willingness to travel between the district court locations when in-person services resume.

- Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain and overhaul all mechanical equipment and components associated with generating stations and facilities. Take appropriate preventative or corrective action.
- Maintain and operate precision machines, test equipment and shop tools required to carry out work assignments, including the fabrication of components and the use of specialized tooling.
- Carry out equipment noise, balancing and vibration measurements for maintenance of stationary and rotating equipment, and testing of mechanical equipment to ASME code standards and procedures.
- Fabricate, assemble and repair metal components, including highest level of welding required.
- Perform a wide variety of non-destructive examinations/testing (NDE/NDT Level 1) of major and auxiliary equipment. Perform studies associated with the development or acquisition of NDT techniques/ equipment.
- Align machines using precision equipment such as dial indicators and laser-alignment tools.
- Perform work protection code (WPC) activities up to the level trained.
- Act as an operator agent in Hydroelectric only.

- Determine generating system reliability and power system production. Develop and maintain supplementary computer programs to facilitate analysis.
- Participate in studies associated with energy production, load and capacity, demand management, etc., and provide regular and on-demand reports. Establish and maintain documentation / program files
