Our vision is to foster an environment that promotes inspired and empowered team members who make an impact.The Environmental Monitor will primarily be responsible for conducting environmental inspection and monitoring throughout the construction of various energy development projects. The Environmental Monitor will primarily be responsible for coordinating daily compliance activities and monitoring duties during construction activities.In addition, your role will be to:

  • Conduct daily inspections of construction activities and attend construction meetings.
  • Conduct migratory bird nest sweeps and other wildlife monitoring activities, as required.
  • Ensure implementation of mitigation measures from environmental management documents, permit conditions, and best management practices.
  • Inspect implemented erosion and sediment control measures and provide recommendations for repair and amendment, when needed.
  • Oversee and direct soils handling activities (e.g., topsoil stripping).
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans and mitigation measures for any identified environmental issues or hazards.
  • Act as an environmental lead for the construction team.
  • Act as a resource to construction personnel and explain environmental regulations and how they are applied in the field.
  • Verify that environmentally sensitive areas are properly marked and flagged before work is done in the area.
  • Coordinate daily with construction team to discuss upcoming construction activities that are existing, potential problem areas and areas of concern.
  • Inspect areas of concern and make appropriate recommendations to construction personnel, as required.
  • Complete daily and monthly environmental reports, including nest sweep reports.
  • Review field reports for consistency and accuracy.
  • Support the preparation of environmental permits, when required.
  • Coordinate with regulatory bodies, when required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field of study
  • 5+ years professional experience as a Biologist, Environmental Monitor, Environmental Inspector, Environmental Planner, or related role
  • Experience related to pipeline, transmission line or renewable energy project construction would be an asset.
  • Experienced leading field work, and coordinating with various field teams
  • Experience and knowledge related to other biophysical disciplines, such as wetlands, vegetation, aquatics, etc. would be an asset.
  • Designation or certification related to erosion and sediment control, such as CPESC or CESSWI, would be an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, client communications, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and best management practices
  • Experience developing summary reports related to construction activities and/or compliance status
  • Experience with ESRI products, such as ArcGIS Pro, Survey 123 and Field Maps would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid Driver’s License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

  • Develop keyword maps to guide SEO efforts.

TRACKING SETUP

  • Setup data collection tools such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Optimize, and other conversion tracking scripts on client websites.
  • Add target keywords and keep SEO tracking tools up-to-date.

PAID SEARCH MANAGEMENT

  • Setup and make updates to paid campaigns using Google Ads and Google Ads Editor as per the direction from the Core team.
