  • Conduct property and casualty consultative services – including on-site inspections and desk reviews – on prospect and bound accounts of low to moderate complexities, identifying exposures with significant loss potential and generating sound recommendations for risk improvement
  • Communicate complex technical information and recommendations in a manner which is understandable and clear to the policy holder and broker partners
  • Prepare comprehensive risk assessment reports for underwriting teams and corresponding recommendation reports for policy holders and broker partners, detailing the use of the property, hazards observed, and actions required for risk improvement
  • Clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations in written form, ensuring content is appropriate for diverse audiences
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Support underwriting by responding to technical inquiries and, on occasion, conducting presentations on technical risk assessment topics of underwriting interest

Who You Are

  • Minimum of 3 years in commercial property and casualty risk assessment, preferably in the insurance industry
  • Post-secondary education with a focus on technical and/or engineering fields, including fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, or building construction
  • Industry-related designations including Chartered Insurance Professional, Canadian Risk Management, and/or National Fire Protection Association programs considered an asset
  • Proficient in identifying hazards and providing risk improvement solutions, particularly in residential realty and hospitality occupancies. Experience with additional occupancy classes considered an asset
  • Technically sound in construction, building systems (i.e. electrical, heating, plumbing, etc.), process hazards, hazardous materials, fire protection, security, and premises liability
  • Experienced in evaluating the design of automatic sprinkler systems in relation to occupancy hazards and storage applications
  • Working knowledge of industry-related codes and standards, including the Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, National Fire Protection Association standards, and Factory Mutual data sheets
