Job description: About FableThe best digital teams work with to make products more accessible for over 1 billion people who live with disabilities. Fable ranked #3 on the 2022 LinkedIn Top Startups Canada list and Fast Company’s 2023 Most Innovative Companies in Design list. For this role, we are open to applicants who are located in Canada. If you believe that you match majority of this job description, we highly encourage you to apply!RequirementsWho will report to me?

  • You will manage a team of seven to eight full time employees representing our Finance organization along with the Operations team.

When will I start? Where will I be located?

  • We are ready to bring on the right person as soon as we find them. The ideal candidate will be located in the Greater Toronto area or able to relocate in the short term.

What will I do?

  • With this hire, we aim to bring on an experienced Finance leader from the growth stage technology ecosystem. We have matured as we have grown but the best path to credibility at Fable, regardless of level, is demonstrating a hands on approach. Over the first 30 days, this person will dig deep with cross functional leaders and fully understand how the business operates. The VP should immerse themselves in our team to gain a deep understanding of our company’s goals, clients, our unique value proposition, and long term vision. With this insight, we expect the VP to test and refine our existing strategic financial plan to drive rapid, responsible growth in 2025 and beyond, ultimately reaching a point where they can suggest and make high-impact decisions with the full support of other leaders. Additionally, this leader will build and nurture strong relationships with our Board members, becoming a trusted go-to for the financial reporting that helps our investors understand our unique business.
  • Next, we will want this leader to use their deep understanding of the core metrics that drive our business to build a “near-term” financial model which allows for transparency and predictability. In addition, success over the first several months will be determined by this individual’s ability to build a “long-term” financial model which takes product and expansion into account, aligns the team on growth/profitability goals, and allows for greater accountability.
  • Our finance team is poised to take our data analysis to the next level. As our VP of Finance, you’ll lead the development of advanced financial reporting and modeling capabilities, enabling real-time insights that drive strategic decision-making. You’ll work closely with your team and other leaders to provide actionable recommendations, foster a culture of accountability, and ensure that our financial planning aligns with our business objectives.
  • Finally, the VP will serve as a mentor and model for the entire Fable team – they will embrace and demonstrate our core values in their day to day work. At a strategic level, they will work with our leadership team to refine our approach to KPIs and OKRs, ensuring we have the best system in place to drive knowledge and accountability through the company. At a tactical level, this individual will lead a diverse team with multiple functional accountabilities. They will ensure their teams’ voices are heard while ensuring those same teams are aligned to our short and long term goals. This leader will continue to build and retain best in class team members, nurturing high potential employees, forging career paths and serving as an empathetic and invested leader.

What are the requirements? The right leader will:

  • Be open minded and flexible
  • Willing to learn about accessibility and follow inclusive design practices.
  • Open to working on a fast-moving team.
  • Willing to learn new tools and adjust quickly.
  • Be familiar with our space (PE/B2B SaaS/PaaS)
  • Have written the ”financial story” of growth stage companies – they will be skilled at uncovering and tracking business intelligence that makes a business attractive for long term investment.
  • Have experience collaborating with Boards and Investors, ideally in a Private Equity or Growth Equity backed business.
  • A well rounded finance expert
  • They will be known for possessing comprehensive financial expertise, including FP&A, accounting, budgeting, and investor relations (PE). They will have experience managing a growth stage finance team that includes other departments outside of finance.
  • Enthusiastic about managing budgets with and advising leaders of cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, sales, revenue operations, marketing, product, and operations.
  • They will have proven ability to effectively manage and work closely with Sales, Revenue Operations, Marketing, Product, and Operations and successful experience driving action with functions outside of finance.
  • Be a strong, data driven leader
  • They will be known for defining, communicating, and driving outcomes based on their knowledge of what excellent looks like.
  • They will be able to drive quick, informed decisions with highly visible and accurate data.
