Aligned with a person-centered care model and the vision and values of Grand River Hospital, and in accordance with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists’ (CAMT) Standards of Practice, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Inpatient High Intensity Rehabilitation Unit: This unit serves medically stable adult patients (18+), including those with acquired brain injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries/compression, and fractures. As the Music Therapist, you will focus on neurorehabilitation and mental health. Patients who have experienced a stroke, brain injury, neurodegenerative disease, or spinal cord injury will receive music therapy 2-3 times per week, as caseload permits.Neurorehabilitation Outpatient Clinic (NRC): The NRC is an outpatient clinic for patients who have recently experienced an acute change in their neurological status or have a new stroke diagnosis requiring additional therapeutic services. These individuals will receive music therapy 1-2 times per week, as caseload permits.Geriatric Assessment & Neurobehavioural Unit: This unit offers specialized assessment and treatment for older adults experiencing age-related conditions. Many patients require additional support due to behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), which can include agitation, aggression, depression, and apathy. Patients will participate in a group setting twice weekly and/or individual settings as caseload allows.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates client treatment plans and provides music therapy to promote neurorehabilitation.
- Works effectively with members of the multidisciplinary teams and participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, providing formal and informal consultations to staff
- Collaborates with others regarding operational issues and concerns; liaises with the Professional Practice Lead Music Therapy regarding practice issues
- Participates in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as required
- Engages in professional development and continuing education
- Assists with program development and evaluation as required
- Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment

The Music Therapist will bring the following:
- Accredited Music Therapist (MTA) with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT); membership in CAMT and/or the Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO) required.
- Master of Music Therapy or Master of Music in Applied Music and Health from an accredited university or equivalent is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor of Music Therapy are also welcomed to apply.
- Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) training through the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy required; preference will be given to candidates who have completed their NMT Fellowship.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) is an asset. Preference will be given to those who hold both NMT/NMT-F and RP status.
- CAMT internship supervision training is an asset.
- Prior experience in a hospital setting preferred; knowledge and experience in neurorehabilitation (e.g., stroke care) and dementia care is required.
- Strong foundation in music therapy theory and practice, including harmony, improvisation, and composition.
- Advanced musical training with a recommended minimum Grade 9 RCM on the principal instrument.
- Experience in developing and implementing individualized music therapy treatment plans, along with the ability to provide clinical progress reports for neurorehabilitation and neurobehavioural patients.
- Demonstrated ability to provide evidence-based music therapy interventions to patients.
- Ability to deliver in-service music therapy education to other GRH staff.
- Basic training in psychotherapy and counseling skills is an asset but not required.
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) training is an asset.
- Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to navigate challenging clinical situations.
- Strong organizational, time-management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
