Job description: WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Work with the sustainability team in executing technical projects related to life cycle assessment (LCA), greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other sustainability-related projects. Work with other Intertek business lines, subcontractors and collaborators on timely delivery of sustainability services.
  • Respond to external and internal inquiries related to sustainability within the North America region. Participate in meetings with clients and potential clients, providing innovative solutions to challenges within sustainability.
  • Contribute to business development and marketing of sustainability-related topics and services, including the research and drafting of promotional materials (e.g. blogs, webinars/presentations, webpage content, etc.).
  • Work as a team with clients and colleagues in a number of geographies, including North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, to build and maintain client and partnership relationships.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in sustainability, environment, climate change or equivalent
  • Practical consulting experience in delivery of LCAs and GHG-related projects.
  • Good general knowledge of sustainability and climate change issues, standards and regulations.
  • Have at least 5 years of consulting experience in GHG-related projects, including GHG accounting and/or verification in accordance with ISO 14064 and/or GHG Protocol Standards. Experience with science-based target setting and GHG strategy development is preferred.
  • Have at least 5 years of consulting experience in product life cycle assessments (LCA) related projects in accordance with ISO 14040-14044, and/or ISO 14067, and/or Environmental Product Declarations, and/or other equivalent standards. Experience using LCA software (e.g. SimaPro, GaBi) is preferred.
  • Candidates with sustainability-related assurance and ESG reporting experiences are preferred.
  • Candidates who are fluent in French are preferred.
  • Comfortable working independently with remote team members from around the world and at different time zones.

  • Be an active member of project teams working on greening the built environment including new buildings, communities, infrastructure and transportation projects.
  • Responsible for analysis, report preparation, project deliverables and outcomes such as performance calculations (e.g. energy and water consumption, life cycle assessment) and summary reports;
  • Liaise with our larger Climate Change and Resilience teams such as energy modeling team on building simulations/analysis;
  • Provide technical support, perform calculations and contribute to certification applications (such as LEED, Envision or WELL);
  • Conduct research in green building technologies and design principles;
  • Assist the team in developing visual reports and project correspondence;

What you bring to WSP

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architectural, environmental or sustainability;
  • General knowledge of the principles of sustainable design practices, sustainable designations such as Envision SP, LEED AP or WELL AP are an asset;
  • 2-4 years of related work experience is an asset;
  • Previous experience in the sustainability field through academics or otherwise such as life cycle assessment software;
  • Past co-op or summer work term experience in the engineering or construction industry strongly desired;
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills; attention to detail and strong work ethic;
  • Ability to learn quickly and incorporate feedback into future work;
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint;
