Job Description

We’re in search of a Frontend Development Manager to join our Brand & Audience Expansion team within Marketing. Our team’s mission is to help Shopify reach new audiences and empower more entrepreneurs. As a Frontend Development Manager, you’ll lead and inspire a team of frontend developers that work on a variety of marketing UX campaigns initiatives. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate closely with marketing designers, content designers, video producers, and more to develop best-in-class work that’s intended to inspire and empower more entrepreneurs.

You’ll use the latest web standards in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as utilizing Ruby on Rails to develop websites and web applications that scale and perform well on all devices, bringing Shopify to audiences around the world.

As a Frontend Development Manager in Brand and Audience Expansion, you’ll lead and inspire a team of Frontend Developers that work on campaigns and initiatives across various marketing channels and touchpoints. You will lead planning, resourcing, and executing projects, while providing mentorship and creating growth opportunities for your team. You’ll also collaborate across different crafts and leadership teams to help push the disciplines of Frontend Development and Marketing User Experience (UX) both within our team and across the company.

Qualifications

What you’ll do as a Marketing-focused Frontend Development Manager at Shopify:

Work on problems with your teams, roll up your sleeves, form an opinion, and advocate for engineering-specific roadmap items.

Mentor and lead a small team of developers while also providing growth opportunities.

You understand that leadership is a craft, and know how to mentor your team members to help them grow and succeed.

Help your team ship exceptional user experiences and establish clear definitions of quality.

Build accessible, responsive, performant experiences, and educate teams across UX and Marketing on why this matters.

Evaluate and provide supportive and constructive feedback to your reports.

Partner closely with content design and marketing design leadership peers to strategize, problem solve, and take our teams to the next level.

The right candidate will have:

Proven senior leadership skills. Your management skills and technical depth allow you to develop and mentor other leads as well as build credibility with your team, while executing broader engineering strategies.

Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and advocate for the Frontend Development craft.

You feel comfortable diving into the code and interacting with developers at all levels of seniority and have a commitment and drive for quality, technical excellence, and results.

Experience building responsive, performant, and accessible web experiences that engage audiences through the use of animation and complex interactions.

Working with modern web stacks (transpilers, linters, build and CI tools, etc.).

Experience designing and developing APIs, working with Content Management Systems, and Design Systems.

A passion for efficiency and collaboration, with a history of establishing great relationships across UX, Engineering, Marketing, Leadership, Product Marketing, Data, and SEO teams distributed across multiple time zones.

You are comfortable working with senior stakeholders (Director level and up), both technical and non technical.

Has proven experience representing the front end development craft through presentations, workshops and articles.

It would be great if you had experience with:

Working in an agency or creative environment delivering large-scale, multi-language websites, microsites, landing pages, and campaigns with complex internationalization and localization requirements.

A deep understanding of one or more specific client-side areas like animation, web performance, or accessibility for example.

Experimentation and evaluation methodologies to help inform decisions with real-world data.

Job Description

We are in search of a Senior Social Media Lead to join the Brand & Audience Expansion team. Our mission is to help Shopify reach new audiences and empower more entrepreneurs through channels like Twitter, Instagram, and more.

As Senior Social Media Lead, you will lead our social team, collaborate with peers on the Brand & Audience Expansion team, and work with stakeholders across the company on cross-platform campaigns. You’ll guide our social team through creating, iterating, and updating channel strategies and goals as social ecosystems continue to evolve. You’ll foster a healthy team environment for creative work while adding the right balance of structure and process to help your team operate effectively at scale. As a champion for the social media marketing craft, you’ll influence and inspire other social teams across the company to align on content strategy, adopt best practices, and share learnings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Refining and updating Shopify’s Social channel priorities, strategies and goals

  • Leading and mentoring a growing a team of Social content creators; recruiting and training content creators, helping reports plan campaigns, and showing them how to measure success and identify blockers / dependencies

  • Providing strategic recommendations to maximize engagement on company announcements and/or cross-platform campaigns

  • Operationalizing day-to-day publishing across all platforms to match priorities and resourcing (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and/or other platforms)

  • Using platform analytics to set goals, identify trends and optimize tactics

  • Monitoring social trends, influencers and relevant news to identify opportunities to join the social conversation and grow visibility

  • Overseeing and contributing to the creation of frameworks that can be leveraged to achieve high quality and consistency across Shopify’s social channels (e.g. voice & tone guidelines, social campaign intake processes)

  • Aligning with and influencing stakeholders across the company, both on other Social teams (Shopify Partners, Plus etc) and on other Marketing teams (Product Marketing, PR etc)

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience developing social media strategies and growing loyal audiences; you’ve grown Twitter or Instagram accounts by 100,000+ followers or more and can explain how you did it (required/please only apply if you meet this qualification)

  • Experience leading Marketing teams with 5 or more direct reports (required/please only apply if you meet this qualification)

  • Experience working with stakeholders from other teams to implement Social or Marketing frameworks or processes

  • Proven ability optimizing content for social media algorithms and analyzing channel analytics

  • Ability to write and refine engaging social media copy

  • Obsessed with social; you live on social platforms and enjoy staying up-to-date on breaking trends, memes, and viral content

  • Strong visual eye with regard to the creation of graphics, selection of images, and creation of video for social publishing

  • Comfortable embracing uncertainty and managing risk
