  • Carry out work involving meter reverifications, sample meters,overdue meters and provide annual testing on a wide range of metering equipment. Provide testing with meter analyzer (Northwoods Data Logger or BMI) and meter software e.g. PQ Inspector or PC Pro Plus. Maintain records for reverifications and meter testing program. Receive work assignments with general discussion from Meter and Relay Services or from Supervisor. Arrange with Zone, Operating Area or external personnel for joint action and assistance in order to resolve schedule problems of mutual interest, when required. Make necessary prescribe and schedule visual, instrument, mechanical and electrical checks of equipment, comparing with standard requirements. Be responsible for cleaning, checking and making replacements and carry out the necessary operations to achieve required equipment performance. Refer unusual problems to the Supervisor such as the need to upgrade metering to standard. Prepare and forward to the Supervisor or Meter and Relay Service all pertinent reports on the work performed, recording data or problems encountered, empirical solutions applied and evidence to support that further work is required.
  • Select and order standard metering equipment for new and service upgrades. Carry out the sizing of equipment according to customer load from acquired customer load estimates. Install a variety of standard metering equipment, including MIST and MOST metering and imbedded generator installations, with telecommunications connections for new customers. Respond to customer requests for upgrade to interval meters including: scoping out work and costs for the installation and relationship with the customer the process; initiate billing though CSS. Receive work assignment through office routine (FBC) or Supervisor, for installation of metering. Arrange with Zone, Operating Area or external person Supervisor for direction. Prepare and forward to Supervisor, all pertinent reports on work performed, recording data or problems encountered and evidence to support that further work is required.
  • Carry out initial inspections and testing of metering installations, within specified time frames of our business, to verify the readiness of newly installed, upgraded and in service equipment. This equipment must meet specified requirements regulatory compliance (Measurement Canada and D.S.C.) and confirm to other governing regulations. Use CM evaluator, metering analyzer equipment and meter software to check the accuracy of metering. Receive work assignment through office routine of assignment from Supervisor. Arrange with Zone, Operating Area or external personnel for joint action assistance, when required, or to resolve problems or requirements of mutual interest. Refer unusual problems to the Supervisor Prepare and forward to the Supervisor all pertinent reports on work carried out, recording data or problems encountered, and evidence to support that further work is required.
  • Investigate malfunction to identify, locate and correct faults in metering equipment. Use metering analyzers such as Northwood Data Logger or BMI and meter software e.g. PQ Inspector or PC Pro Plus or other to test and locate faults in metering equipment. Receive assignment from office routine, or Supervisor or ascertain the work needs through own observations and defect reports. Arrange with Zone, Operating Area or external personnel for joint action and assistance, when required or to resolve problems of mutual concern. Carry out various electrical, mechanical, visual and other checks on equipment and circuits. Analyze test results. Make necessary repairs, or modifications to correct faults, following safety and security procedures and regulations. Refer unusual problems to the Supervisor for direction. Prepare and forward to the Supervisor all pertinent reports on the work performed, recording data or problems encountered and evidence to support that further work is required. Keep Supervisor informed of recurring problems on equipment.
  • Contribute to various work activities by performing or participating with the Supervisor or other technical staff in carrying out special tasks such as test for Electo Magnetic Fields, identification and elimination of radio frequency interference, harmonic distortion complaints, resolution and customer power factor load studies. Advise results and bring unusual problems to the Supervisor’s attention. Prepare and forward reports to the Supervisor including recommendations where appropriate. Respond and communicate to customer inquiries.
  • Replace and service recording equipment, including RIMs, to survey and obtain statistical data on DS and customer loads as well as meter customer loads.
  • Complete arrange for collections, disconnections and reconnections and unscheduled meter readings.
  • Collect metering data in the field on Meter Information Form and forward to FBC for Meter and Relay Services retention.
  • Prepare electronic recording ammeters for metering of short term duration for defective metering replacement and load transfers. Download ERA’s an interpret results.
  • Check out and correct or arrange for repair of test equipment.
  • Maintain local inventory of metering equipment for appropriate stock level to meet current demand. Handle, package and store metering equipment according to Field Operating practices and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria

  • Requires a knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and related mathematics as they apply to telecommunications, control and metering equipment and circuitry.
  • Requires a knowledge of instruments and test equipment used in checking electrical and electronic circuits.This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in and equivalent to a Grade XII education in a secondary school plus intermediate related courses.
  • Requires experience in the application of prescribed modules of the MEA training program.
  • Requires experience related to commissioning, trouble-shooting and preventative maintenance of a wide range of equipment related to metering and telecommunications.
  • Requires experience with various computerized software and hardware applications to transfer data files and perform testing on remote metering.
  • Requires experience with meter pulse circuits, interposing relays pulse recorders, (Rims Untis) and KYS terminology and operation.A period of up to four years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

  • This role will allow the student become familiar with per unit analysis and system modelling of distribution systems.
