Job description: Senior PIA Specialist – Contract – 18279About the OpportunityOur Public Sector client is seeking the services of one (1) Senior-level PIA Specialist to provide expertise in privacy impact assessments and information governance in alignment with federal standards.Duties include but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct detailed review of privacy checklist and assist in the assessment of risk for program activities that collect personal information
  • Assist with tools to help guide program leads in understanding what is personal information and administrative and non-administrative decision is making
  • Assist program leads in the interpretation of requirements of the mandatory template for PIAs (per the Directive on Privacy Practices and related Standard on PIAs)
  • Analyze the flow of information using the PIA model provided by the client (TBS mandatory template)
  • Conduct information sessions on the use of the mandatory template and how program leads can maximize subject matter expertise in branch directorate to complete
  • Conduct one on one sessions with clients in “walk throughs” of the template explain what will need to be filled in
  • Provide advice on the level of detail in the program description and data point workflows
  • Make recommendations on when activities can be combined into one PIA or when multiple PIAs would be warranted
  • Provide advice and guidance on how to demonstrate mitigation of risks
  • Inform management to engage with the OPC on PIAs that will need to be submitted (early engagement and consultation meetings)
  • Recommend to management when the PIA is ready for approval
  • Assist with the completion of Personal Information Bank Summaries to submit to TBS with the PIA

About YouThe successful candidate will have the following:

  • A university degree or college diploma in a relevant field or an acceptable combination of education and experience
  • 10 years, as of solicitation closing date, analyzing privacy requirements in the Canadian government departments or agencies with the Privacy Act and related privacy policies and directives with respect to compliance and mitigation of program activity risks
  • Experience working in a federal institution identifying risks and providing guidance on mitigation to the protection of private information, experience in identifying specific risks faced by government departments or agencies with respect to privacy protection and experience in using tools such as a Privacy Impact Assessments, Privacy Protocols or record of decisions. Experience working in a federal government environment is considered an asset
  • English is essential
  • Valid Reliability Clearance issued by the Government of Canada
