Job Description:
Role Summary
       The Director, Data Science & Analytics for Sun Life Health Solutions manages a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled data scientists and analysts. The main responsibilities include driving the implementation and alignment of analytics practices and processes in support of key business objectives, creating the strategy, vision, and direction of the team, improving capabilities, processes, tools, and setting the best practices. The Director will also work with functional areas to align the team’s efforts with business priorities, using advanced analytics methodologies, solutions and tools to help optimize business performance by deriving meaningful value from our data.
What will you do?
       Strategic Leadership
       Oversees creation of strategy and plans to build and grow analytics products and capabilities in alignment with the strategic goals of Sun Life Health Solutions
       Engages with senior management and business partners on a regular basis to identify priority areas for data-driven insights in alignment with strategic goals of Health Solutions
       Identifies and communicates priorities in alignment with team goals, develops, and maintains data and analytics product roadmaps, assigns individual responsibilities, and prepares resourcing plans and schedules to support completion of project deliverables and ad-hoc requests, as well as development of best practices.
       Operational Leadership
       Drive the team to enable efficient delivery of analytics framework suitable to Health Solutions goals.
       Collaborate with Senior Management, Product Management, Developer, Data Governance and Operations, Market Development and Marketing teams in delivering on business commitments.
       Implement frameworks for data and analytics quality and problem solving that drive consistent outcomes across the team.
       Develop KPIs and improvement measures and continuously drive improvements in health solutions
       Establish governance and efficient communication with all groups involved with the analytics.
       Drive projects with strong leadership and communication skills.
       Able to plan and manage complex deliverables in a dynamic and matrix organization.
       Ensure broad strategies are translated into clear and practical objectives, metrics and action plans and assigns significant responsibility to others based on their capability all while supporting them in these new capacities to ensure success.
       Leading Others
       Manage, mentor, motivate, & set expectations for teams of highly technical individuals that build analytics products and hypothesis driven analysis
       Lead and provide programs support for change management and adoption of the standards, and best practices related to data analytics.
       Cultivate a continuous improvement environment that fosters the development of supplementary skillsets and abilities; to fuel staff career growth, and upcoming organizational requirements
       Support employee development by having regular career conversations with all employees and supporting them in reaching their career goals
       Ensure knowledge is preserved through cross-training for key skill sets in the team
       Establish a sense of ownership entrusts others to deliver on the mandate and holds individuals/teams accountable to do so.
       Establishes and maintains strong relationships with project leaders and members of technical competency centres across the organization. Actively participates in internal collaboration groups and industry forums for data analytics.
What do you need to succeed?
Competencies
       Demonstrated ability to translate business needs around digital health solutions into data and analytical solutions to deliver actionable advice for our teams and value for our users
       Strong relationship management skills and ability to foster relationships and leading data science initiatives in complex and matrix organizations
       Experience in leading analytics teams and growing talent with technical mentorship
       Expertise in delivering business and product analytics (segmentation, user profiling, user modelling) solutions
       Demonstrated expertise in data science methodologies for analysis, prediction and optimization within in the context of digital solutions- experience in digital solutions in the health sector preferred
       Expertise in industry standard programming languages, libraries and platforms for data management, code management, model development and deployment, and visualization
       Expertise in working with BI platforms (e.g. Tableau) and building self-service solutions and workflows for business partners
       Demonstrated ability to make recommendations to senior management and influence business and product decisions.
       Excellent communication, change management and presentation skills
Education and Qualifications
       Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, or equivalent , Graduate degree in quantitative science preferred
       5-7 years hands-on experience with data science tools and platforms
       3-5 years of people leadership experience or other leadership role
       Unique Requirements
       The candidate selected for this role is required to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)

       The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
