You will perform a variety of tasks which may include modelling and design, calculations, field work, and design coordination with other disciplines.This entry-level position will suit an enthusiastic individual with ambitions to build a career as a technologist within a dynamic and growing team.Your Key ResponsibilitiesPerform conveyance engineering, stormwater management and site design which may include engineering models and drawings, hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, quantity calculations and cost estimating.Understand and follow established design guidelines and standards.Work directly in modelling and design software (primarily Autodesk Civil 3D) to develop design elements including conveyance alignments and profiles, site and stormwater management grading.Review, interpret, summarize and evaluate existing information such as sewer inspection CCTV, as-built drawings, reports, and GIS databases.Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, applications for regulatory agencies, client presentations, client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.Coordinate with CAD technicians for preparation of engineering drawings.Carry out site visits to collect field data, then compile field notes and photographs.File and manage all project related data.Attend and assist in client, contractor, stakeholder, and regulatory agency meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals, project requirements, site assessments, key challenges, coordination.Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks including construction inspection services.QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsStrong interest in conveyance engineering, stormwater management and/or site design.General understanding of concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design, including gravity and pressure conveyance systems, geotechnical, survey, storm water/drainage design, and site grading.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team.Excellent attention to detail, specifically with accuracy in drafting and calculations and completeness of dataAbility to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.Enthusiasm to take initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.Experience with civil engineering design related software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookKnowledge and skill with ArcGIS, PCSWMM, HECRAS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, (or other modeling software) is considered an asset.Member or eligibility for registration with The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and TechniciansAbility to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.Education and ExperienceTechnical School Diploma/Certificate Engineering Technology with an emphasis in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.Previous co-op/internship experience preferred.Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time.
