POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Analytics team at The Globe and Mail is looking for a Digital Data Analyst with strong fundamental skills in data analysis, visualization, and data modelling. This role will be instrumental in helping us make sure that everything we do is informed by data. The primary responsibilities for the analyst will be to model large volumes of data to design and implement custom reports and dashboards and to perform complex analyses to extract useful insights and identify key trends.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analysis and Data Modelling: Modelling and interpreting large volumes of data, identifying trends and extracting insights, primarily with Tableau and SQL.
Communication: Communicating insights to relevant stakeholders clearly as well as helping other teams with their data related questions.
Data Visualization: Create, maintain, enhance and automate various dashboards and reports that provide insights into user behaviour while keeping in mind business goals.
Requirement Gathering and Documentation: Assist with documenting data sources, relationships between data entities and business concepts, and methods of calculation and measurement while understanding stakeholder needs.
MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Quantitatively focused bachelor’s degree preferred, with at least 3 years of experience working as a Data Analyst or quantitative post graduate degree
- Advanced knowledge and experience working with Tableau – ex. Level of Detail, window functions, data blending, parameters, levels of filtering, etc.
- Experience working with analytical (OLAP, HTAP, etc.) databases (Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.)
- Command of analytical SQL (ex. Window Functions & Frames, Group Sets, Cubes, Rollups, etc.)
- Knowledge of web analytics and inner workings of various web analytics tools (i.e. knowledge of beacons, data processing and enrichment)
- Comfortable working in a ‘self-serve’ capacity as a data analyst (i.e. retrieving and modeling your own data when so required).
- Experience gathering stakeholder requirements with a demonstrated ability to get to the bottom of specific business rationale
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Data Visualization skills and at least a year of experience working with Tableau
- Working knowledge of web analytics tools such as Omniture or Google Analytics
- Good understanding of SQL and relational databases
- Knowledge of statistical analysis methods
OPTIONAL BUT DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with managing Analytics and Marketing tags (via a tag manager or inline)
- Experience deploying tracking via Tag Manager(s)
- Experience using R or Python with Tableau or on their own to form statistical tests
- Experience working with AWS
- Experience working on Linux systems (shell scripting, vi, cron management, etc.)
- Working knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, HTML
- Experience in directing and teaching non-technical stakeholders on use of analytics tools
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
