About the Position:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Director, Finance supports major initiatives in finance, accounting, investments, and treasury, providing leadership to the team on daily operations. This role contributes to setting strategy, determining priorities, and liaising with other departments and vendors. The Director, Finance proactively monitors team outputs, ensuring all compliance and reporting deadlines are met.

Specific Duties:

Financial & Accounting (55%):

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance deliverables.

  • Drive key automation projects, such as process automation and KPI dashboarding, using existing and new tools.

  • Review or prepare analysis and memorandums on technical accounting and indirect tax matters.

  • Lead the FP&A team in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes and report development.

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Finance and CFO to ensure annual core budget assumptions align with five-year financial planning scenarios.

  • Develop and monitor the annual budget for the finance department.

  • Actively contribute to the Finance Department Risk Register, including identification of key financial risks and ongoing mitigation efforts.

  • Act as the key liaison for complex issues on the annual external audit and oversee the interim and year-end audit preparation.

  • Understand, monitor, and actively recommend amendments to key internal controls.

Management & Leadership (40%):

  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, development, and recognition of direct reports, including:

    • Ensuring alignment with BC SPCA core values.

    • Providing and completing the designated onboarding roadmap within the specified time period.

    • Offering active coaching and mentorship to ensure objectives and goals are met, celebrating individual and team successes.

    • Conducting regular SMART goal setting and performance reviews.

    • Leading team-building efforts.

    • Ensuring coverage of team members’ duties during periods of absence as required.

  • Provide input on the annual finance unit roadmap and support implementation of key organizational priority projects.

  • Support a culture of innovation, teamwork, and embracing change.

  • Model exceptional standards of ethics, professionalism, and internal and external customer service standards.

  • Develop an annual plan for the team of direct reports, based on the strategic plan, the Finance team’s annual roadmap, and other key metrics, benchmarks, and industry best practices that support continuously improved processes and reporting.

  • Support the development of and compliance with key financial policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Build supportive and trusting relationships across all functions of the organization to ensure financial procedures are relevant, clear, and implemented effectively, and to ensure the finance function is providing value-added support to the organization.

Makes a minimum number of calls per week, to accomodate a work cycle in region. Ensures demonstrator product is effectively displayed, and that inventory levels are appropriate. Follows up on issues, recommends solutions to all parties.
  • Ensures that point of purchase, promotional, and product materials are effective and available. Communicates feedback to all parties, and updates dealer profiles accordingly. Makes recommendations for improvements to display layout, positioning, and lighting for consideration.
  • Advises management of competitive activity. May assist individual customers as necessary. Prepares required reports.
  • Determines training needs and opportunities. Develops, designs, and delivers product knowledge sessions to business partners. Ensures the design and delivery of training seminars is consistent with corporate objectives, meets the needs of distributors, contractors and facilitates sales.
  • Evaluates product knowledge to determine training requirements. Assesses the effectiveness of training presentations, makes improvements, makes recommendations, implements changes, and provides feedback. Provides detailed reports as required.
  • Replenishes in store materials and ensures displays are in working order, effective and dominant.
  • Makes recommendations regarding the materials that need replacing and actions. Ensures that inoperative demonstrator equipment is repaired or replaced. Assists with the resolution of in branch issues, including parts, service, backorder, returns, or credit. Prepares required reports.
  • Participates in sales events, product knowledge communication initiatives, demo days, and trade shows. Assists with all aspects of projects as required by management.
