Job description: The Canadian Press/Sony Social Justice Photography InternshipThe Canadian Press, in conjunction with Sony of Canada and Journalists for Human Rights, is seeking qualified photography candidates for the inaugural CP/Sony Social Justice Photography Internship, to be based in Toronto in spring 2025.CP is committed to creating opportunities in journalism for a diverse cohort of qualified candidates throughout our newsrooms. Top-level opportunities in photojournalism are often slow to open up, so gaining valuable experience can be a challenge.The internship is intended to create an opportunity for a student or early-career Canadian photojournalist from an under-represented demographic to work with CP’s award-winning team and build a foundation and valuable contacts that can help accelerate their career path.Eligible applicants will have less than five years professional experience, including students, freelance photographers or photographers currently employed full-time at regional or non-daily publications.While still photography is the main focus of this internship, the successful applicant may also be given some video assignments during the three-month program. The position is paid and is based at the head office of The Canadian Press in Toronto during the internship. It does not include living or personal travel expenses.The successful candidate will be provided access to camera bodies, lenses and video cameras by The Canadian Press for use during the program.Additionally, a core kit of Sony camera gear will be awarded to the successful applicant to keep after the program ends, to help launch their career. The applicant will also receive access to Sony’s equipment loan program.The Canadian Press will retain copyright of any images gathered during the internship.
