What you’ll be doing
You will be joining the In-House Agency team within People, Culture and Brand (PC&B). As an Intermediate Copywriter you bring creativity, strategic thinking and a storytelling approach to craft compelling and engaging content for both online and offline platforms both independently and in a team setting.
You have a keen eye for detail and know how to edit, ensure proper grammar, proofread, and are comfortable providing communication guidance. You’re able to interpret a brief and value team work to ensure consistency of voice, tone and style across various platforms.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How you’ll succeed
- Create, manage, edit and conceptualize content – You have a creative mindset with the ability to conceive interesting ideas and new approaches to develop engaging content based on the marketing team’s business priorities. You can craft clear and compelling copy and understand how words can shape an experience. From writing catchy headlines, to creating an emotion, to providing step-by-step advice – you’re versatile and understand how to write for a variety of social media channels, email, newsletters, product brochures, out of home, video scripts, and point of sale (posters, screens) to connect with clients and consumers. You research/organize facts related to the assigned ask to compile and organize writing ideas. Proofread and edit copy for mistakes or additional ideas and guarantee it’s composed per the direction provided. You’ll maintain organizational knowledge of trademark rules for CIBC products and services, legal and compliance.
- Communications support – You are curious about consumers, what motivates them and can develop consumer centric content. You think ‘big picture’ and create quality work that not only meets the goals of the brief but ensures brand consistency and tone of voice is present and properly applied. Coordinate all translation requests and approvals.
- Build internal and external relationships – You’ll collaborate & brainstorm with designers, subject matter experts, and marketing leads for new ideas and strategies. You’re comfortable expressing your ideas and solutions, seeking best practices and sharing expertise and knowledge to further enhance CIBC’s brand presence.
- Project and time management – You’re self-motivated, creative, innovative thinker and multi-tasker with the ability to prioritize and manage time strategically. You know how to deal with ambiguity along with working through multiple iterations that can arise on a project.

- You can demonstrate 5+ years of experience with superb writing abilities in various diverse styles/tones with accurate spelling and grammar editing, proofing copy across various platforms. Plus, you can present and justify creative ideas and concepts against the creative brief.
- You have agency experience (a plus!), and are bilingual and can fluently speak, write and communicate in French (nice to have). Along with your resume, send us your portfolio of recent work that displays your ability to craft stories that brings content marketing to life.
- You have a degree/diploma in English, writing, Journalism or Diploma of Copywriting program an asset.
- You can demonstrate experience using software such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, Office365
