JOB DETAILS:
Reporting to the Manager, Internal and External Communications:
a) The position is responsible for researching, writing and editing a broad array of content and documentation to ensure the impact of work is clearly and persuasively communicated to key stakeholders, including the website, social media, internal communications, news releases, corporate presentations and speeches, newsletters, issues/crisis materials and other materials as required.
b) The position is responsible for assisting with the development and execution of various internal and external communications plans.
c) While this position does include various strategic duties as well as campaign management, there are also hands- on responsibilities expected of the successful candidate including day to day communication/tasks and other operational support functions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES ENTAIL (but not limited to):
a) Develop communication materials for major projects in support of the communications functions and strategy.
b) Act as a lead in project planning and execution of major internal and external projects in the communications and the stakeholder engagement functions. This involves collaborating with senior management and subject matter experts to advise on accurate and relevant communication content and strategies and managing the critical path timelines to ensure project timelines remain on track. Will manage end-to-end communications which will include content development, collateral planning, event planning, presentation and speaking remarks, intranet content strategy and other relevant channels.
c) Conceptualize, write and edit a range of documentation relating to ongoing strategic and operational priorities, researching content where needed. Types of documentation include: website and social media content, news releases, internal communications, stakeholder communications, internal communications, corporate presentations and speeches, issues/crisis materials and other materials.
d) Oversee external newsletter creation including editorial planning, content development, writing, editing, liaison with external suppliers, and recommend distribution strategies
e) Respond to department requests for communication support on initiatives such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
f) Write and edit the annual report, business plan and other corporate publications and initiatives, and other corporate presentations as required, in corporation with other lines of business.
g) Manage proactive and reactive media calls; develop key messages; and identify appropriate media spokesperson. Support and schedule media planning and associated activities.
h) Lead coordination of awards program and participate in the preparation for the Annual General Meeting.
i) Assist in planning for participation in major trade shows – specifically to support the definition of show themes and identification of trade show components. May be done in conjunction with other departments.
j) Identify trends and monitor activity on social media to identify opportunities to promote our campaigns. As well, evaluate activity on social media to identify potential issues that can impact our Social Media Strategy and provide solutions to mitigate risks.
k) Ensure all documents produced reflect our brand.
l) Keeping abreast of all new media, marketing communications, and content development trends.Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
a) Excellent conceptual and creative thinking skills.
b) Proven ability to produce compelling copy for a range of communication vehicles.
c) Demonstrated presentation skills.
d) Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external organization stakeholders including Executive Management Team and Senior Management Team.
e) Demonstrated computer skills
f) Demonstrated knowledge related to public relations, media relations, external communications, internal communications, digital marketing, and social media to support the initiatives of the department.
g) Demonstrated project management, multi-tasking and negotiating skills to provide effective consultation and support our legislative and regulatory agenda.
h) Demonstrated excellent written, verbal and listening skills to influence stakeholders and media.
i) Demonstrated experience to understand relevant issues related to electrical safety, public administration, and issues management.EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
a) Post-secondary graduate in print journalism, English, professional writing, communications, marketing / advertising or public administration.
b) A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years of experience as a professional writer in an agency, corporate or public sector environment and an accompanying professional portfolio.
c) Experience working in non-profit and/or government settings is an asset.
