Carleton is also a nationally certified Healthy Workplace and is a recipient of the Canada Awards for Excellence, Healthy Workplace Order of Excellence and Platinum Level Certification for Mental Health at Work.The university’s is an ambitious vision for the future, anchored in Carleton’s strengths and student-centric, community-engaged values.Duties and Responsibilities:Reporting to the Carleton Office for Research Initiatives and Services (CORIS), and working closely with Research Financial Services (RFS), the incumbent is responsible for providing day-to-day post-award administrative support to principal investigators (PIs) holding more than one mid-sized external research grant or contract and who do not have dedicated project staff to support them. Specifically, the incumbent will provide guidance to the Carleton research community – PIs and their research support staff – on interpreting University financial policies, procedures, and guidelines; using Carleton’s online financial systems (i.e. SAP Concur, T&E Reimbursement, FAST, eShop, Graduate Requisition Payment System, Online Pay Profile System); completing relevant templates and forms (i.e. payroll documents, compliant employment agreements, in-kind attestation, etc.); and navigating human resource policies and practices with regards to hiring research staff. They will also provide hands-on service to this defined group in processing research expenses in the Carleton financial enterprise systems.Qualifications:The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Excellent knowledge of financial information systems and reporting tools
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of University research-related policies and procedures
- Thorough understanding of research fund administration and experience working with research funding agencies
- Project management principles and software, including the use of Gantt charts
- Superior competency in using spreadsheets
- Proven track record of providing excellent customer service and interpersonal relations, as well as excellent oral and verbal communication, including recognized use of tact and sensitivity in dealing with varied clientele, and
- Ability to work independently, under direction, as well as in a team environment
Education and Experience:The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- Four-year honours degree from an accredited university, ideally with business management and/or accounting skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a research/university administrative environment involving accounting, budget procedures, and/or research administration
