Apply today!Looking to get the most out of your upcoming internship?Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineering (High Pressure Metallurgy) Intern with an interest in metals processing for a 12 – 16-month internship starting May 2025. Reporting to the Global Director of High-Pressure Metallurgy, you will support local and international projects working from our Mississauga Head Office.The High-Pressure Metallurgy Group is part of the global Hatch Metals team. High Pressure Metallurgy is responsible for the design, construction, and commissioning of pressure oxidization and leaching facilities used globally for the recovery of minerals such as gold, silver, nickel, uranium, amongst other precious metals.What a Co-op at Hatch Will Offer You:You will:

  • Gain experience in a variety of technical areas by working closely with our team of process engineers.
  • Act as a technical resource on challenging projects where you will apply analytical, conceptual, research, and planning skills to the development of metallurgical processes for economic evaluation and installation.
  • Be involved in various types of process study, depending on the project, but will include such activities as process benchmarking and process development applying the tools of process design criteria creation, mass and energy balancing and process flow diagram generation.
  • Work closely with experienced engineers who will provide guidance and mentoring.
  • Apply and develop their knowledge in such fields as process design, mass and energy balancing, and process cost modeling.
  • Be exposed to modern design tools, including MetSim® modeling, process equipment sizing tools and complex calculation software.

You bring to the role:

  • Enrolled in as a 3rd or 4th year student in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Mineral Processing Program from an accredited University.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Ability to evaluate metals (copper, nickel, cobalt, lead, zinc, tin, lithium, potash, phosphate, vanadium, uranium etc.) processes by applying concepts of chemistry, heat and mass transfer, and thermodynamics to assist in the process modeling and design of process plants.
  • Ability to effectively utilize written and oral communication skills to describe, depict and explain their work to other team members.
  • Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and Power Point.
