We’re looking for a Multi-Media Content Creator to shape and strengthen the CityNews brand as our news operations continue to transition to digital and we radically change the way we produce and tell our stories in order to better engage and build our audiences.

The ideal candidate has competence in many of the skills required to work in a modern, multi-platform, continuous news operation, and an aptitude and desire to learn more.

Writing, chasing, researching, producing, digital storytelling, pitching, interviewing, vetting, posting, basic shooting and desktop editing – you have, or with training are on your way to having, the ability to create journalistic content from the idea stage to publishing or broadcast.

You have a passion for local news, strong editorial judgement, and are looking for an opportunity to learn and grow while working alongside a talented, innovative and fun team of journalists.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Working independently or as part of a team, you will create fast-paced, compelling and informative news content for our digital properties and for broadcast on our television and radio news programs.

  • Coordinating and deploying newsroom and field resources to gather elements and create news content.

  • Pitching during daily creative brainstorms and story meetings

  • Emailing, Tweeting, calling and interviewing people as you chase, research, and create enterprise or breaking news content.

  • Creating, independently or as part of a team, innovative video content optimized for a digital audience.

  • Ensuring that content is factually and grammatically correct.

Skills and Competencies:

This role is designed to build a newsroom staff that has the capability to respond, as individuals or small teams, to an ever-increasing appetite for continuous news on multiple platforms, and to create that content from conception to broadcast or publishing. The skills below are not an exhaustive list, nor is the expectation that the Multi-Media Content Creator has competence in all of them. A solid grounding in many of these skills, and a willingness and desire to learn more, is the expectation.

WRITING: Write breaking and enterprise news content for television, radio, and digital platforms. Proofread and copy-edit news content.

RESEARCH/CHASE: Research, pitch and chase story ideas, including breaking news and enterprise news, including leads submitted by our audience. Pre-interview guests and arrange necessary resources for broadcast segments.

CONTENT VETTING: Vetting breaking and enterprise news content (including video and audio packages) for television, radio, and digital platforms, including fact checking/substantive editing.

DIGITAL AND TELEVISION CMS KNOWLEDGE: Edit and publish digital content in our content management system (WordPress) and/or manage television content in our television content management system (Inception). In WordPress, this includes headlines and media, and ensuing our digital platforms and homepage are updated with the very latest local, national and international news stories, and that our pages and apps are optimized for reach and engagement. In Inception, this requires building lines in Inception Running Orders, inserting production cues, creating Xpression elements (keys/graphics), generating placeholders and ensuring broadcast elements have times (keys/durations) updated accordingly.

VIDEO EDITING: Visual editing skills (Quantel, Premiere Pro), including the ability to add keys and graphics prior to digital publishing. Independently create video content, from raw media to final product, with an ability to apply editorial judgment.

VIDEO/STILL PHOTOGRAPHY: Basic still and video photography skills, including the ability to add those photos and videos to digital and broadcast content.

INTERACTIVES: Create engaging interactive digital content using tools like timelines, maps, infographics, basic animations.

VIDEO SUPPORT: Ability to perform various tasks related to the production of visual news, including scheduling content feeds, records and live streams using ScheduAll; coordinating live hits in a control room; searching for visuals from various sources (CityNews archives, social media, licensed content providers.)

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Deploy and manage resources (field camera operator/editors, reporters etc.) for breaking and enterprise news, shifting those resources based on story tracking on social and other platforms.

DIGITAL PLATFORM PUBLISHING: Distribute and amplify content, including breaking news and push alerts, to our internal and external platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Delivery and promotion of digital content on our social channels, whether created by the MMCC or others, including audience engagement. Management/ownership of social media, using third-party programs to do so, such as Social Studio and Media Proxy. Creating social media campaigns to promote stories/specials. This incorporates scheduling social posts but also understanding how/when the audience consumes content on various platforms.

LIVESTREAM: Initiate and manage live video streams on our internal and external platforms.

ADVANCED DIGITAL KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge and understanding of Digital News beyond content creation, including; tracking digital analytics to continually optimize and update content distribution, troubleshoot and manage technical issues that may arise (pages not loading, no audio on video, duplicated alerts), keeping up to date with the latest digital products and trends

About the Role

Vena is looking for a Marketing Operations Specialist with event & email operations experience to join our Revenue Operations team.

The Marketing Operations Specialist is a key role within the Vena team. This role is responsible for leading the execution and optimization of Vena’s ongoing marketing efforts with a focus on customer marketing, partner marketing & digital and physical event operations.

You will be involved with the go to market part of the Revenue Operations framework, working to improve collaboration, remove roadblocks and improve our overall processes.

What you will do:

  • Work with Partner marketing for campaign set-up, reporting, management of partner traffic and lead reports
  • Manage the day-to-day for Vena’s marketing operations around event execution and additional operations tasks
  • Work closely with the Customer marketing team, in execution and reporting of their campaigns
  • Act as the subject matter expert on event execution
  • Assist in developing and executing email marketing campaigns
  • Provide additional assistance in all marketing operations activities, including automation workflows & reporting while working in platforms such as SFDC & HubSpot
  • Reporting before, during and after events (reach, registration, attendance, MQLs, SQOs, deals, revenue)
  • Set up operational elements of virtual and physical events, including:
  • Building audience segments
  • Registration execution
  • Webinars and meetings project management
  • Workflow development
  • Communications internal & external
  • On-demand videos roll out
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve user experience and conversion
  • Ownership of professional accreditation reporting and processing
