Our areas of focus include news and media relations, marketing and design, digital content management and communications planning and output that responds to the needs of our diverse audiences including students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors. Communications leadership and support is also provided for initiatives arising out of the various administrative units within the Dean’s Office.The Communication Officer will be responsible for the design and development of communications materials, marketing and outreach efforts of the department to increase the profile and reputation of the Faculty, nationally and internationally to attract prospective students, and to improve the overall experience for current and prospective students. Specifically, the incumbent develops and coordinates execution of targeted communications plans, and develops and distributes promotional material in both web and print formats including for awareness campaigns and information sessions, special events and general information and activities throughout all stages of the student life cycle. With a focus on engaging students to tell their stories and share their authentic experiences, the incumbent demonstrates a passion for interviewing, writing and storytelling that informs audiences and advances the profile of the Faculty.Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing tasks related to the production and dissemination of communications/marketing materials
- Implementing project communications plans
- Developing outreach strategies that promote programs to students and the broader community
- Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
- Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
- Liaising with clients to draft, review and discuss communications briefs
- Editing content for style and tone
- Consulting with clients regarding the development of marketing and/or communications materials
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four (4) years of recent and related experience in communications, journalism, or marketing, including student communications
- Demonstrated experience with student communications project implementation and coordination through to execution and results
- Experience with interviewing, researching and writing articles (feature and news), reports, letters, and promotional and public relations material (websites, brochures, posters, advertisements, newsletters, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience with WordPress and Drupal or other current content management software (CMS)
- Experience managing content for websites and newsletters
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of social and multimedia strategies, tools, channels, trends, and capabilities
- Experience with developing and managing digital marketing
- Experience working with technical consultants and graphic designers to create effective and engaging materials
- Experience with programming in HTML, CSS, and PHP
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Strong skills with programming in HTMLand content management systems
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to deal with a variety of responsibilities, with interruptions
- Project implementation skills and knowledge about the principles of good design and how to assess audience needs
- Proven journalistic skills, including investigating and pitching stories, executing interviews, and writing news and feature stories.
- Exceptional proofreading and editing skills with working knowledge of graphic design principles for web and print communication.
