This role will be accountable for underwriting and profitably growing our construction business in the Canadian market.. The successful incumbent will also play a role in coaching, mentoring, and training other members of the team to ensure their ongoing professional development. They will manage relationships with select broker partners and clients.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow Liberty’s Guidelines for Inclusion and encourage its use at Liberty. Build personal DE&I knowledge and act as an early adopter of new DE&I skills and processes to drive positive change.
  • Underwrite and negotiate policy terms and conditions on target new first-party Construction business, providing mentorship to other underwriters as needed.
  • Expand and maintain broker/client relationships to facilitate profitable growth of Construction products through independent sales calls, attending client meetings and representing Liberty at industry events.
  • Continuously develop and expand expertise in mainly first party product lines and claims trends, providing recommendations for improvement, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other Liberty business units in the identification of cross-marketing opportunities.
  • Develop our position as a “go to” insurer with target brokers through service excellence and superior underwriting acumen.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years related insurance industry experience.
  • Experience in underwriting construction and/or energy property insurance required.
  • University degree with a focus in business, engineering or applied science considered an asset.
  • Self-starter with proven analytical skills and a proven track record in a solutions-oriented approach to underwriting that drives profitable growth.
  • Experience working within a guideline framework, underwriting authorities and protocols.
  • Demonstrated broker relationships with global, national and regional brokers.

  • Contributes to the development of the personal support care plan under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager. The written Care Plan is completed with information collected from the funder, the Manager and the client or family.
  • Implements changes to the care plan under the guidance of the Manager for safety, liability and financial reasons.
  • Reports verbally to the immediate supervisor or Personal Support Program Manager any changes in the client’s or family’s personal support needs or home situation necessitating a change in the personal support care plan.
  • Performs personal support tasks reflecting the needs of the client and family. Tasks may include light cleaning, preparation of nutritious meals, care of clothes, shopping for the client as required, and monitoring and maintaining household safety.
  • Provides personal care as directed by the Personal Support Program Manager or immediate supervisor, including assisting the client in walking, climbing or descending stairs, getting into and out of bed, eating, dressing and other matters of personal hygiene.
  • Provides simple bedside care, where required, under the direction of a nurse.
  • Provides respite care to clients as required.
  • Supports clients’ families by providing child care as required to allow for family relief.
  • Organizes each day’s activities, setting priorities for personal support and other activities under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager or an immediate supervisor.
  • Completes daily call checks, and other forms as required, to maintain the effective and efficient operation of the personal and home support service.
