The Communications and Public Affairs Department is responsible for reputation management of our network, internal and external communications, branding and marketing, media relations, digital media, government and stakeholder relations and community engagement.

The Communications Advisor is an integral member of the Communications and Public Affairs team, striving to build the network’s local, national and international reputation as a progressive leader in the treatment of critical care, serious illnesses, community health, rehab and complex continuing care, and research and education that impact patient care.

We are looking for a skilled, creative and motivated Communications Advisor to join our team. In this role, you will be largely responsible for planning, co-ordinating and producing content and campaigns for our social media and other content channels to help raise the profile of our network, our people and the services we provide. We’re looking for a self-motivated content creator who is full of ideas and not afraid to pick up the phone to find answers, interview about sensitive subjects and find that detail that makes a story sing. We’re looking for a critical thinker who can spot emerging trends and issues that will help us frame our story as a leader in health care. This position also supports internal communications as needed.

The Communications Advisor will report to the Manager of Media and Digital Strategy and work closely with our Senior Communication Advisors supporting our quality, research and education, and clinical portfolios across our network.


RESPONSIBILITIES
:

  • Generate ideas, write and develop stories and campaigns that demonstrate the commitments in our Strategic Plan and promote our brand.
  • Oversee the daily scheduling and posting for our social media calendar.
  • Monitor our social media channels for emerging issues, including issues management
  • Respond in a professional and timely manner to requests and incoming questions from the public
  • Work with our media relations team to identify and pitch story ideas to journalists
  • Collect and analyze social media analytics to guide content strategy
  • Work collaboratively within the Communications and Public Affairs team, the Foundation and with other departments throughout the network.
  • Special projects and other strategic communication duties as assigned, including event support, producing internal communication assets, etc.
  • Act as the Communications & Public Affairs representative on a rotational basis after hours


QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Undergraduate degree/diploma in journalism, public relations, communications, or related area.
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully developing and implementing communication strategies, public awareness campaigns, corporate communications or news stories.
  • Strong, clear writer and editor; must have ability to ensure error-free materials.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with social media analytics; knowledge of Excel an asset.
  • A creative thinker with a keen eye for what makes a good story
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including executives, board members,
  • Results oriented, self-directed, and independent, with the ability to balance multifaceted projects and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure; mature judgment for assessing difficult situations.
  • Outstanding organization and time management skills.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage the Canadian public relations program – developing local PR strategy, act as the key liaison with local PR agency and aligning with US and/or Swedish counterparts as required
  • Develop, execute and manage the annual Canadian media plan across key industry and segment publications, digital media channels and social media channels, aligning to local goals and objectives
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, compelling content strategy, specific to the Canadian market, that aligns to corporate goals
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop engaging bi-lingual, local content that drives awareness, thought leadership and demand generation of Axis’ product, solutions and services offering
  • Manage local social media channels, aligning messaging to local, regional or global campaigns as appropriate
  • Develop, organize and maintain a local content calendar, leveraging regional or global content calendars (and teams) as appropriate
  • Keep pace with changes in SEO and naturally incorporate SEO best practices into content development
  • Be a brand champion, including brand and campaign messaging, ensuring consistency and/or relevancy
  • Collaborate with others in the Canadian Marketing team to support marketing campaigns as required
  • Identify opportunities to improve process efficiencies and to incorporate Axis brand and campaign messages
  • Provide general department support for ad-hoc projects and tasks as required.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, being a champion of the finest grammar, style and spelling
  • Knowledge of email marketing automation, social media, SEM/SEO and digital advertising

Education & Experience

  • Proficiency in email marketing automation (Pardot or similar) and Microsoft Office suite

Valued, but not essential

  • Fluent French language skills – written and oral
  • Ability to translate technical jargon into everyday language (i.e. Plain English)
