Job description: Position Summary
Reporting to the SCWI Manager, the Incumbent is responsible for supporting daily operations of SCWI programming across four campuses (Newnham, Seneca@York, King, and Peterborough). The School College Work Initiative (SCWI) assists students in successfully transitioning from secondary school to college. The four components of SCWI are Dual Credit, School Within a College (SWAC), Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), and SCWI Activities.
The Coordinator’s responsibilities include creating and leading all marketing and communication initiatives in addition to providing administrative, student, and event support. The Incumbent supports the daily operations of the SCWI office, including student and school board communication, classroom support, and responding to the general operational needs of the department. The Incumbent will identify gaps in service, identify opportunities, and implement new processes to maintain the smooth operation of this multi-faceted department.
This role will be rotating to work at the Seneca main campuses. Additionally, this position requires managing evening and weekend overtime hours during peak periods.
Responsibilities
Content Creation & Management
- Leading and coordinating all internal and external communication, print and digital, for the SCWI Office.
- Designing presentations/workshops/videos using mixed media (PowerPoint, Adobe Spark, etc), ensuring presentations are engaging and adhere to AODA guidelines and Seneca’s branding.
- Creating and deploying emails to students, teachers, guidance counsellors, board partners, and external stakeholders, regarding information sessions, special events and SCWI Activities.
- Liaise with the Marketing and Communications Team on updates to the SCWI and Orientation websites.
- Writing articles that feature SCWI programming and events for our website, SeneNews, SCWI Newsletter, and other publications, adhering to deadlines.
- Create, edit, and provide speaking notes for all mixed-media presentations (PowerPoint, Adobe Spark videos) for all SCWI events.
Communication, Customer Service & Administrative Support
- Front-line representative ensuring that all interactions (walk-in, telephone, and electronic) for students, school board staff, and faculty related to SCWI programming are addressed in a timely, service-oriented manner.
- Provide admission decisions and corresponding communication to eight district school boards.
- Ensuring that the information provided is up-to-date, and accurate and that the appropriate SCWI service is identified and when necessary.
- Utilize SCWI knowledge to develop online workshops, information sessions, and outreach resources as mechanisms to access department services and information.
- Working with the Dual Credit Team members and other Seneca departments to answer inquiries through call campaigns and mass email communication.
Strategic Planning, Monitoring & Measurement
- Creating and implementing a strategic marketing plan and content-based calendars for email blasts and social media channels, focusing on student recruitment, enrolment, and retention.
- Working with faculty and service areas to identify possible Dual Credit courses and promotion of our programming and services.
- Use of social media monitoring tools (i.e., Google Analytics, Hootsuite) to monitor and report metrics.
- Working with school board leads in creating promotional material and opportunities for student engagement, innovation, and promotional programming.
Special Events
- Creating all communication pieces related to SCWI Activities and special events.
- Attend and provide support and social media coverage.
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum three (3) year Diploma/Degree in Marketing, Communications, Social Media, Public Relations, Journalism or related field. If in another field, please state how it relates.
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in a post-secondary environment is required
- Knowledge or exposure to transitional programming is preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.
- Experience creating, writing, and editing various forms of print and digital marketing content.
Skills
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Metrics reporting experience in a corporate or post-secondary environment.
- Experience with Google Analytics, Hootsuite and strategic planning.
- Proficient in social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
- Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & other presentation software.
- Proficient in MS Teams and Zoom
- Photography, video and graphic design experience (Adobe Photoshop) are an asset.
- Experience with high school, at-risk students is an asset.

- A Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle are required due to travel with this position.
