As an added benefit, our interns have access to industry tools, research and the opportunity to interact with traders, portfolio managers and economic researchers.Who you’ll work withWe are looking to fill an intern to join the Hedge Funds team within the External Managers Group (XMG), Capital Markets. XMG consists of 11 diverse investment professionals, based in Toronto and London. The Hedge Fund team consists of 8 investment professionals and is dedicated to hedge fund and insurance linked strategies. Our mandate is to produce absolute and uncorrelated returns by investing in various strategies, adding diversification to the larger investment portfolio. You will work closely with portfolio managers on day-to-day investment activities and on longer-term research projects which connect directly to our risk-taking activities.What you will doAs an intern in Capital Markets, you will be encouraged to make the most of your Teacher’s experience by asking questions and getting involved in our daily business right from Day 1. Daily responsibilities may vary but generally involve monitoring and reporting on key drivers of risk, exposures, and profit/loss across various strategies and managers, building analytical tools as well as assisting in research for new and current investment strategies. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the hedge fund industry and interesting trading strategies spanning various asset classes through interfacing with top-tier hedge fund managers. You will also participate in a term-length portfolio management case to develop and test your investment skills, nurture your interest in capital markets and help assess your interest in risk taking. Furthermore, you will have a chance to explore the work of other groups, not just your own, by attending networking and lunch-and-learn sessions.What You’ll Need

- Strong Excel skills and basic programming skills (such as Python)

What you get to do every day
– Handle payments and invoices, and update ledgers.
– Oversee and manage general ledger.
– Develop budgets and financial reporting.
– Execute monthly accounting closure procedures and deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, reports).
– Organize, review, and assess balanced collections and statements.
– Help liaise with both internal and external auditors during financial and operational audits.
– Assist with the development and monitoring of accounting policies.
– Help to develop, enforce, and adapt policies, procedures, and initiatives which assure sound financial management.
– Act on ad-hoc projects as necessary.
– Track and assemble reports, and oversee these to ensure data is properly entered.
– Assist in coding documents, recording business transactions, and providing to other team members.
– Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
